Renewable Energy Flashcards
Secondary foci: Extended Learning, Boys Attainment, DTaAfL, Personalised Learning, Reflective practice, Peer Assessment,
How was it used?
Our Yr 8 pupils used the NGfL Cymru information cards on Renewable Energy Resources to create flash cards (using MS Flashcards) to test their peers comprehension of the properties of different renewable energy resources.
Impact and Outcomes
- Pupils enjoyed the activity and appreciated the impact renewable energy resources can have on our planet.
- Pupils demonstrated to be able to work interdependently. The NGfL Cymru resources were very useful in giving learners reliable and engaging sources of information and a structure to base their Flashcards on.
- Pupils became more involved in their education and took responsibility for the learning of others. In fact, they produced resources that, even when used by students from other classes, were very effective as revision tools.
- Having to focus on single pieces of information they needed to research from the text helped the pupils to develop important analytical and Literacy Skills.
Learner Feedback
I really enjoyed playing with the cards, because I could beat other groups and we scored 100% in one set!
The information on the energy sheets was really easy to understand and it gave us lots of facts to learn about energy resources.
It was a good activity, because I had fun and I can use the Flashcards with other subjects now and it will help me revise!
Other Resources
Microsoft Flashcards.
Lesson Learnt
One lesson I learnt was that at some point I had to remind the pupils to make sure they would write answers to their Flashcards that would be very specific from the text studied, because the tool only recognises full answers typed in the text box to award the merit for a correct answer. The alternative would be for the children to just discuss the answer in their group and flip it over to see the answer and tick themselves right, if their answer is similar to the one on the card!
