Reflections
How was it used?
As a starter activity to revise naming straight lines. The resource was very effective as it allowed me to quickly generate different straight lines and gave me the option of hiding the equation. Every pupil had the opportunity to answer the questions and I was able to instantly feedback on their answers and adapt the questions according to the pupils’ understanding.
For the main teaching session the resource was used to demonstrate to pupils how to reflect different shapes in different lines of reflection. The visual demonstrations and explorations provided by this resource was very effective. It was successful in benefiting both the visual and kinaesthetic learners and allowed whole class teaching despite only one pupil using the IWB at a time. The activity has had a clear impact on boys. There was a marked improvement in boys' engagement because more visual resources and because they were able to ‘get up’ and have a go with the interactive whiteboard.
For the plenary activity the resource was used to display shapes and their reflections. The line of reflection and it’s equation was not displayed and pupils discussed in pairs where they thought the line of reflection was and it’s equation. The use of this activity provided pupils with an opportunity to develop their thinking, communication and problem-solving skills
