Outline of the activity
Children use an internet football site (www.football365.com)to locate a range of data about football teams performance. This information is then used to create a spreadsheet and graph in Excel. Children then interpret and present facts about their graph.

Rationale
An involved maths investigation where the children were given free choice to select the data that they would then interpret. Children collect their own data; choose their own style of graph and then explain/interpret their own results.
Result
A very highly motivating mathematical investigation. Children all had ended up with different graphs as they all selected different teams. They supplied a range of observations and interpretations of the results.
